What is known as the first modern genocides is the mass
killing of the Circassians. Yet the Russians do not believe a genocide has
happened. It seems like the Russian government wants to believe that the
Circassians did not exist at all. Also the Muslims did not want to accept them
even though there were involved in the history of Islam and the Circassians
were proud to be Muslim. I feel like this unfair for the Circassians because
they “stressed honor, hospitality, respect for elders, egalitarianism and liberty.”
In which I feel like these traits are important to have no matter where you are
from. Now Russia is trying to say sorry to the Circassians by rebuilding trust
with them and allowing those who are still alive and survived the massacre to
return to their homeland.
